The given case study entails that Headspace is such an organization where the indigenous youths of Australia are facing serious problems in the health care department. The mental illness is a very notable concern in the Australian society where discrimination is very predominant. The indigenous youths suffering from the mental health problems are actually looked down upon in the Australian society. Many youths thus have found to commit suicide; who are aged between 16 and 24 years. The main problem witnessed in this case study is that the youths having mental illnesses are asked to visit many other health care professionals before getting the actual care treatment for their illness. While visiting many care professionals every time, these youths need to re-tell their stories of mental illnesses and symptoms to them which made them much reluctant and irritated at times. Moreover, as they had to re-tell their stories of illnesses a number of times to the different health care professions, thus their actual treatment for the illness is delayed. The patients sometimes clam up and start talking very less about their illnesses which make it much difficult for the health care professionals to take care of the patient properly. Moreover, problem has also been witnessed in case of maintaining the patients’ records effectively. There is no implication of ICT or EHR due to which the care workers of Headspace failed to maintain or record the symptoms and illnesses of the mentally retarded patients at one single time. Patients are asked to repeat their illnesses over and over again to the care physicians which affect the effective delivery of care services to the patients. Apart from all these, they have problems with their funding sources. They do not have sufficient funds to manage and maintain the latest technologies needed to be implemented at Headspace. Moreover, lack of skilled care workers is another important problem that is observed at the concerned care organization.
As a System Analyst in the organization Headspace, it has identified that the Australian Indigenous Youths have been facing a lot of problems in getting proper health care facilities as they are quite confused in describing their problems to the doctors repetitively. This problem has resulted in greater mortality rates among the youths who especially die of suicides because of the frustration being faced by them. In such a condition, as a Research Analyst, the current funding which has been allotted for the health care service providers like Headspace, there has to be proper implementation ICT and technologically advanced EHR, so that there can be kept apposite health records of the patients, so that when the patients have not to tell their stories to the doctors again and again (Haluza, & Jungwirth, 2015). The implementation of the ICT can provide correct and absolute information about the patients at the particular health care centre. Moreover the proper recording of the records of the patients can help the doctors and health practitioners to diagnose the patient’s conditions during the time of emergency; without the patient being disturbed for investigating his health issues. Moreover this can also reduce the medical errors in the case history of the patients along with providing safer health care facilities at the time of requirements. An upgraded ICT networking provision like EHR can enhance the legible, complete documentation as well as streamlining the coding and billing of the patient’s records. The patients who come to the health care service centres like Headspace, mostly needs psychiatric help from the doctors and in such a circumstance, the use of the EHR systems can increase the productivity of the health practitioners as well as the documentations process.
Several capabilities and resources are needed by the Headspace authority in order to make sure that they can carry out their operations and tackle the care treatment procedures effectively. According to the problems encountered at Headspace, the main capabilities needed by them are the appropriate and skilful care staffs and sufficient funds. Due to the lack of skilled care staffs at Headspace, it has become much difficult to take appropriate care of the young mentally retarded patients of Australia (Carayon, et. al., 2014). The authority of Headspace needs to hire enough efficient care physicians who can be able to take care of the symptoms and illnesses of the patients. Also skilled workforce is needed in order to manage the latest upgraded technologies like ICT and EHR effectively to record the patients’ troubles and assess their appropriate care needs (Haluza & Jungwirth, 2014). It can be said that when more capable and efficient care workers are recruited at Headspace it will be possible for the institution to deliver the best quality mental health treatments and medications to the patients. In this way, the capabilities of the health care institute will increase to a great significant extent.
The organizations like Headspace has been lacking in proper funding so that they can enhance and upgrade their technological equipments for keeping more accurate and precise records of the patients. In such situations, the Australian Government can take an active part as they must realize that the contribution of the funds from the part of the government can indicate Australian Government being quite supportive towards the Indigenous tribe; especially the youths (Hanseth, & Bygstad, 2015). The NGOs in Australia can also provide funds for such purpose as they have many networks in collecting money for health care services. The Headspace Institution which specially deals with the mentally disturbed youths of the Indigenous tribes – many NGOs come in the forefront to help these people through providing them adequate funding and thereby promoting quality health care services for these people. Many stakeholders are present in the country to provide proper funding so that health care service providers like Headspace can equipped themselves with upgraded technological equipments like EHR and other ICT technologies for maintaining proper medical records of the mental patients that can be used in the future purpose. Therefore, as a system analyst in the Headspace Institution, it is definitely the duty of gathering adequate funds, so that they can make themselves technologically equipped and can resolve their problems.
