HEALTH PROMOTION MODEL ASSIGNMENT HELP

Health Promotion model was proposed by Nola J. Pender in 1982 which was supposed to be a complementary counterpart to the models of health protection. It has been formulated to ensure that people are able to attain and lead a healthy lifestyle irrespective of their diseases. It is about promoting good health practices which benefit in the long term development of a person. It also directs health professionals to provide positive resources to patients who would encourage them to lead a healthy lifestyle. The primary aim of Health promotion model is not to prevent diseases from occurring but to encourage people to lead a lifestyle which is healthy and enables in ensuring the overall well-being of the people (Mittelmark & Bull, 2013). There are some assumptions based on which the Health Promotion Model has been developed which are:

·         Any person always makes an earnest attempt to control their behavior

·         People make sincere efforts to better themselves as well as the people around them

·         Health practitioners often forget about the healthcare environment which leads to a negative effect on the health behavior of individuals

The theoretical perspective of Health Promotion model states that:

·         Historical behavior, a tradition based on culture and family norms can impact a person’s perception towards healthcare practices or behaviors. For example, eating habits which may not include healthy foods because from childhood a person is habituated to that diet

·         People become interested in particular behaviors if they think that it would provide definite improvement in their health conditions

·         Every person faces certain barriers when it comes to the implementation of certain behaviors

One of the chronic diseases which can have a serious impact on the wellbeing of a person is depression, and it can be healed through a healthy lifestyle and proper health promotion plan(Thalacker, 2010). One of the new approaches for HPM is ecological factors. It deals with the wellbeing of the people’s mental health through interpersonal behavior and interactions. Therefore HPM can play an important role by bringing specific behavioral changes which might lead to the cure of long term mental diseases like depression.
